Kayla Thompson won the state championship in the 2024 California Community College Athletic Association Track & Field State Championship held at Saddleback College. 

Thompson, a sophomore at Antelope Valley College and Lancaster High School graduate, started in the fourth lane and competed against champions from Cerritos and Orange Coast colleges. Thompson took control of the race during the last 100 meters and crossed the finish line as the state champion. 

Thompson graduates from AVC with a state title and ranks #3 in the 400-meter and #4 in the 200-meter on the all-time list. She is the 13th Marauder to win a state championship.
