- General Municipal Election - April 14, 2026 (Local city elections)
The last day to register to vote for the April 14, 2026, General Municipal Election is March 30, 2026.
Period to Accept Write-In Candidates February 16, 2026 - March 31, 2026.
Vote-by-mail ballots can be returned by mail, at a drop-off location, or your county elections office.
Vote centers open for early in-person voting in all Voter’s Choice Act counties beginning on March 16, 2026.
Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by April 14, 2026.
- California Primary - June 2, 2026 (Mid Term Candidate vote)
The last day to register to vote for the June 2, 2026, Primary Election is May 18, 2026.
All California active registered voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the June 2, 2026, Primary Election.
Your county elections office will begin mailing ballots by May 4, 2026.
Ballot drop-off locations open on May 5, 2026.
Vote-by-mail ballots can be returned by mail, at a drop-off location, or your county elections office.
Vote centers open for early in-person voting in all Voter’s Choice Act counties beginning on May 23, 2026.
Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by June 9, 2026.
- Mid Term Election - November 3, 2026
The last day to register to vote online for November 3, 2026, General Election was October 19. Eligible citizens who missed the deadline to register to vote may complete the "Same Day" voter registration process through Election Day on November 3, 2026, at their local county elections office or any in-person voting location within their county.
Make your voice heard, vote early! Return your ballot by mail as soon as you receive it. County elections officials will begin mailing ballots by October 5.
Ballots can be dropped off at a drop-off location, county elections office, or returned by mail. Secure ballot drop-off locations open by October 5.
Skip the lines on Election Day. The first vote centers opened for early in-person voting in all Voter’s Choice Act counties on October 24. In-person early voting locations throughout California will be open on Saturday, October 31.
To ensure your ballot is postmarked by Election Day make sure to mail it at least 7 days in advance. Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before November 3.
If mailing a ballot on November 3, get a manual postmark from a postal employee inside a United States Post Office.
November 3 is the last day to vote in-person or return a ballot by 8:00 p.m. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Qualifications to Register to Vote
To register to vote in California, you must be:
A United States citizen and resident of California
18 years old or older on election Day
Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony
Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court
Qualifications to Pre-register to Vote
To pre-register to vote in California, you must:
Be 16 or 17 years old
Meet all of the other eligibility requirements to vote
You will automatically be registered to vote on your 18th birthday.
Conditional Voter Registration - Same Day Voter Registration
If you did not register to vote by the 15-day voter registration deadline, in most elections, you may conditionally register to vote and cast a provisional ballot by visiting your county elections office, a vote center, or a designated satellite location during the period of 14 days prior to, and including, Election Day.
