Student Success Workshops

What is a Student Success Workshop?

Also known as an “SSW,” our New Student Success Workshops are designed to give a jump start to incoming students and provide helpful information, as well as to let the students know what other programs and services AVC has to offer.

The SSW’s have 6 sections.

  • “Ice Breakers” are games or puzzles that help to engage the student, get them talking and working with their peers, and helps them start learning to think outside of the box.  This also helps the students make some new friends and gives them some familiar faces when they start classes.

  • Counselors will give a brief overview of students' Education Plans and help them decide which classes to start with.

  • Financial Aid representatives give presentations regarding FAFSA, the online application process, grants, scholarships, and alternative options open to students.

  • There will be information on First Year Experience (FYE) program as well as the Study Abroad program.
  • Campus Life gives the students a more detailed look at the different clubs, organizations, and student support programs on campus in the form of a campus tour!

  • After the tour, students are given a presentation on myAVC - how to navigate, add classes, check grades, etc. with a Q&A section at the end.
