We are performing maintenance on our last file share, the My Documents share, and we are working to minimize the impact to you and your work schedule. We are changing the server that stores your My Documents files. These changes that need to be made require some action on your part between now and Friday, the 23rd. Windows Users

If you use a Windows computer, your computer needs to be rebooted outside of working hours both Thursday morning, February 22^nd, and Friday morning, February 23^rd. We are configuring your computer to automatically reboot itself at 4AM if you leave it on. If you turn off your computer for either time, you will not need to do anything. This will configure your computer so when we do the actual server maintenance on Friday, Feb 23^rd at 2PM, that you will not be impacted.

Mac Users

If you use a Mac computer and are accessing the My Documents folder, you will need to set it up to access the new server to continue using your My Documents folder. This can be done at any time, but must be done by Friday, February 23^rd if you do not want an interruption using your networked folder.

To set up your access to the new server, from finder, press Control-K on the keyboard to open the network connections.  Here, you need to add the following URL: smb://avc.edu/Documents/userdocs . Click on the plus in the bottom left corner to save this URL for later use. Click OK to connect to the networked folder. From here, you should see a folder with your name that you can access.  If you see no folder because you have not used this resource before, please contact the Help Desk for assistance. If you have shortcuts to the old locations, please trash them.

Friday's Work

On February 23^rd at 2PM, we will switch our configuration to start using the new server. You will not need to do anything. We have already copied over most files from the old server, but any recently changed files will need to be copied over to the new server. This can take up to 8 hours while we confirm that any updated files are copied to the new server.
