EOPS & CARE

 

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a California Community College program to assist low-income, educationally disadvantaged, students who want to attend college. The Antelope Valley College EOPS program receives state and district funds to recruit, enroll and support these students that may not otherwise seek higher education.

Mission

The mission of the Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOP&S) program is to support the primary goals of recruiting, retaining, and transitioning students who have language, social, economic, and/or educational disadvantages.  The program provides student support delivery service and programs which are “over, above, and in addition” to the regular programs and services offered by the college.

APPLYING FOR EOPS/CARE:

Applications for the Spring 2015 semester has been extended to December 10, 2014. If you would like to apply for the EOPS Program, please come to the EOPS Office in Room SSV 230.

Please note:

You must bring in a photo I.D. in order to fill out an application; must have filed for FAFSA for the 2014/2015 school year, and you must have completed all items listed below which include the four matriculation components:

1. COMPLETED THE ASSESSMENT TEST

2. COMPLETED A COUNSELING APPOINTMENT WITH ANY PROGRAM OR GENERAL COUNSELING

3. COMPLETED THE ONLINE COLLEGE ORIENTATION

4. HAVE AN EDUCATIONAL PLAN WITH ANY PROGRAM OR GENERAL COUNSELING

Also:

YOU MUST BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE BOARD OF GOV. GRANT FEE WAIVER A OR B (noted in AVC computer system)

You will not receive an application without having all of these completed.  No exceptions!

 

EOPS Probabtion:  Program Monitor Evaluation (PME)

PME 1: 

Not completing all three mandatory EOPS Counseling Appointments

Low Semester GPA

Not following Ed Plan

Dropping from courses

Not making adequate progress:

Students will enter PME 1 the next semester. To get out of PME 1, student must successfully follow EOPS contract guidelines.

PME 2:

Any of the above

Not successfully exiting PME 1:

Students in PME 2 will have to sit out a semester then may reapply for the program as a new student.  But a student who enters PME a second time, will not be allowed to reapply for the program.
