AVC Announces Auditions for Noises Off

Open auditions for the AVC Theatre Arts Department’s fall production of Michael Frayn’s Noises Off will be held Friday, August 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the AVC Performing Arts Theatre.  Those auditioning only need to come to one of these sessions.  A variety of roles are available for men and women.  The AVC Theatre Arts Department encourages actors of any age, ethnicity, or physical ability to attend.  Previous theatre experience is not mandatory for any role.

Frequently called “the funniest farce ever written . . .” Noises Off is a farce-within-a-farce, where the actors must contend with slamming doors, falling trousers and flying sardines! Amidst a spiraling chaos of backstage intrigues, trysts and betrayals, the cast proceeds at breakneck speed through rehearsals, opening night, and a final disastrous performance.

Director Jeffrey Wienckowski will be making his debut as a director in the Antelope Valley.  In addition to holding an MFA in Directing from UC San Diego, Jeffrey has worked professionally with established theatre companies in Los Angeles and San Diego, including The Mark Taper Forum, The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, and the Independent Shakespeare Company.

Those auditioning should arrive prepared to move in comfortable clothes with a comic monologue or a joke or funny story to perform.  Actors may want to read the play before auditioning.  Copies of the play are available on reserve in the AVC Library.
