On behalf of the Antelope Valley Community College District’s Board of Trustees, administrators, faculty and staff, welcome to Antelope Valley College and thank you for choosing to pursue the educational opportunities available here.

For the past 80 years, Antelope Valley College has provided a broad range of educational programs and services, allowing students who are attending college for the first time or returning after a long interval the opportunity to pursue degree or certificate programs, satisfy transfer requirements, or attend vocational training.  Students seeking opportunities to advance careers or enhance personal growth are also valued members of the Antelope Valley College community.

Antelope Valley College has worked closely with community and business leaders to ensure that training programs meet the needs of regional employers and serve as a pipeline into high paying jobs. Students receive not just an affordable education, but one designed to fit their schedule and learning style. The college provides a wide range of services and program choices, including small classes, online courses, flexible course scheduling (including weekends), a year-round calendar, and courses at the Palmdale Center. Antelope Valley College students are welcomed and treated with respect and honesty.  Students can expect to be told clearly what is expected of them in order to be successful and are provided opportunities to obtain the support needed to make success a reality, encouraged to seek opportunities that fit their unique learning abilities, and allowed to succeed or fail on the merit of their work.

We are very proud of the numerous triumphs and successes of the 2009-2010 academic year, including expanded facilities and services at the Palmdale site as well as new horticultural science, athletic facilities, Maintenance & Operations/Warehouse Building and improvements in infrastructure at the Lancaster campus.  In addition, Students on the Academic Rise (SOAR) High School graduated its first class, the respiratory therapy program received initial accreditation, and the State Track and Field Championships were held in the Antelope Valley for the first time.

The new 400-seat Theater Arts Facility will open spring 2011, providing much needed lecture, performance, and practice space. Also planned for the 2010-2011 academic year are installation of an innovative solar panel project; construction of the long-awaited state-of-the-art, 107,000 square foot, two-story Health and Science facility, and a comprehensive evaluation by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges to ensure that Antelope Valley College meets or exceeds accreditation standards.

As Superintendent/President, my primary role is to ensure a healthy learning environment in which students are provided opportunities to improve their quality of life and increase their standard of living.  I believe strongly that Antelope Valley College is a special place that affords students significant learning opportunities through devoted teaching, excellent services, and dedication to responding to the changing needs and circumstances of the student population.
