AVC Announces Auditions for Much Ado About Nothing
Open auditions for the AVC Theatre Arts Department’s fall production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing will be held Friday, August 24 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Saturday, August 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the AVC Performing Arts Theatre. Those auditioning only need to come to one of these sessions. A wide variety of roles are available for men and women. The AVC Theatre Arts Department encourages actors of any age, ethnicity, or physical ability to attend. Previous theatre experience is not mandatory for any role.
Containing themes of love, jealousy, retribution, fear of commitment, comedy – Much Ado About Nothing has it all! Director Stephan Wolfert has chosen to stage the production at the end of World War II, when everyone's eager to party after rations and forced relocations, but not all women want to give up their Rosie-the-Riveter jobs and not all men can relinquish their battlefield mentality. As the classic battle of the sexes plays out between two very different (and equally convoluted!) couples, Shakespeare reminds us that “the course of true love never did run smooth.”
No preparation is necessary, although actors may want to first read the play before auditioning. In addition, a short monologue from the play is available on reserve in the AVC Library which actors may prepare and use at the auditions. All auditioners should come prepared to move in comfortable clothing.
